How to Install a Submersible Well Pump

The installation of a submersible well pump is a relatively complex but important process. It is necessary to ensure that every step is correct to ensure the normal operation of the pump and extend its service life. The following are the general steps and precautions for the installation of a submersible well pump.

Preparation before installation

Check the water well conditions:
Confirm whether the diameter, verticality, well wall quality, static water level, dynamic water level, water inflow and water quality conditions of the water well meet the use requirements of the submersible well pump.

Wash the newly drilled well to remove impurities such as mud and sand in the water.

Check the power supply equipment:
Ensure that the power supply equipment and power supply lines can meet the normal operation requirements of the submersible well pump.
Check whether the power supply voltage and frequency meet the use conditions of the submersible well pump.

Prepare installation tools:
Prepare installation tools and instruments such as tripods, lifting chains, clamps (clamps), wire ropes, wrenches, screwdrivers, megohmmeters, etc.
Read the installation instructions:
Carefully read the installation and use instructions of the submersible well pump to understand the specific installation steps and precautions.

Installation steps

Motor water injection:
Remove the water filter, open the exhaust and water injection plugs, fill the motor cavity with clean water, pay attention to prevent false fullness, and check whether the motor parts are leaking.

Check the cable and insulation:
Carefully check whether the cable and connector are bruised or damaged, and use a 500-volt megohmmeter to measure the motor insulation resistance to ensure that it is not less than the specified value (generally 150 megohms).

Install the protection switch and starting equipment:
Equip the protection switch and starting equipment, and check whether they are working properly.

Assemble the pump pipe:
Install a short water pipe section at the water outlet of the pump, and clamp it with a clamp and lift it into the well.
Clamp and install the subsequent water pipes with a clamp in turn until all are installed. Note that rubber pads should be added when connecting each flange, and the screws should be tightened after alignment to prevent water leakage.

Fix the cable:
The cable should be fixed in the groove on the water pipe flange, and each section should be fixed with a binding rope. Be careful when going down the well and do not damage the cable.

Lowering the pump:
Use a tripod and a chain to lower the assembled submersible well pump into the well as a whole. If there is any jamming during the lowering of the pump, try to overcome the jamming point and do not force the pump down.

Install the outlet and well cover:
Install the elbow, gate valve, outlet and other components, and add corresponding rubber pads to seal.
Put the well cover on to ensure the safety of the wellhead.

Post-installation inspection

Check the direction of the motor:
Instantly start the motor (no more than 1 second) and check whether the direction of the motor is the same as the direction sign. If it is opposite, swap any two connectors of the power supply.

Test operation:
After connecting to the three-phase power supply, conduct a trial run of the submersible well pump to observe whether it works normally and whether there are any abnormal sounds or vibrations.

Precautions

Safe operation:
During the entire installation process, pay attention to safe operation to avoid accidents such as electric shock and falling.
It is strictly forbidden for personnel to work in the well.

Comply with regulations:
Strictly comply with the installation and use instructions of the submersible well pump and relevant safety regulations for operation.

Regular inspection:
After installation, the operation of the submersible well pump should be checked regularly to detect and deal with potential problems in a timely manner.

How Long Do Submersible Well Pumps Last

The service life of a submersible well pump (deep well submersible pump) is a relatively complex issue because it is affected by many factors. Generally speaking, the design life of a submersible well pump is between eight and ten years, but the actual service life will be restricted by many factors, including but not limited to the following aspects:

Gear pump oil trap phenomenon

What Should I Do if the Gear Oil Pump Gets Trapped?

The oil trapped phenomenon of the gear oil pump refers to the phenomenon that during its working process, due to the meshing and rotation of the gears, part of the oil is trapped between the closed chambers surrounded by two pairs of gear teeth, and the volume decreases and increases as the gears rotate, resulting in a series of adverse consequences.
